Akwa Ibom State Moves To Remove Child Beggars From Streets

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has given directive to the Governor to stop the use of children for street begging. After deliberation of the motion introduced by the leader of the house, Rt. Hon. Udo Kieran Akpan, titled, “Stopping the Menace of Able-bodied Men and Women Begging for Alms with Babies/Toddlers in the Streets of Uyo,” the lawmakers urged the governor to act to stop the use of children to beg for arms on the streets of the state.

The lawmakers urged the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), and the security agencies to take charge of the responsibility to eradicate the act of using children to beg for alms.
