The award-winning novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has delivered a baby girl. Ms. Adichie, who is an unapologetic self-proclaimed feminist went through her pregnancy journey and delivery in the most secret way that probably has ever been observed of a person in her celebrity status. When she told a journalist with the London’s Financial Times, “I would probably have a glass of wine, but I’m breastfeeding, I’m happy to announce,” she was for the first time publicly breaking the news of her motherhood. Who does that, many have asked? Ms. Adichie believes (at least in her case) why not.
Ms. Adichie believes the journey of pregnancy should be a “personal” one.
“We live in an age when women are supposed to perform pregnancy. We don’t expect fathers to perform fatherhood,” she said. Did you hear the phrase- “perform pregnancy?” Oh yes, you heard right. That’s the latest pregnancy slogan, perhaps introduced by the Great novelist, Ms. Adichie! Ms. Adichie has some clarifications to make, because this has been “buzzing” on social media.
Congratulations Ms. Adichie! Welcome to the World to your baby girl!
