The Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal has ordered the closure of Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, a state owned specialist hospital. The dilapidated state of the facilities the Governor witnessed after the unscheduled visit to the hospital led to the order of the closure. The patients have been transferred to other hospitals in the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam said the Governor is committed to renovating the hospital and it will reopen as soon as the upgrade is completed.
“Yes I can confirm that the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital will be upgraded. The new facility will host the proposed cardiac and renal centre while the Amanawa Leprosareum will be converted to an Infectious Diseases Hospital,” Imam said.
