Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who was a strong, formidable South African anti-apartheid crusader has died at the age of 81. She was ex-wife of former South African President and world renowned freedom fighter, Nelson Mandela. Both were jailed and were critical figures in the three decades of anti-apartheid struggle. Though Winnie’s reputation was later scarred by allegations of corruptions and scandals in her personal life, she is widely known as the mother of the nation and an icon South Africans will probably never forget.
